Joy Fairbanks

Joy Biesinger Fairbanks received her BS/ED and MA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her Masters of Art was in the field of jewelry with a sculpture minor. During her graduate work she became interested in photography and has been exhibiting in that field for the past 35 years. Her work is included in museum collections as well as private collections. Joy is a member of the Indiana Art Association,  the Pittsburgh Society of Artists, the National Collage Society and the Allied Artists of Johnstown.

Joy currently has cards, collages and photographs on display in the gallery, which exhibit her photography skills and collage work.

Joy's use of photographic layers and space create a sense of depth within her two-dimensional pieces. "Passageways Collage" transforms itself into a three-dimensional container with various rooms that the observer feels like they are actually looking into. The collage effect of this work also produces a great amount of texture, almost as if the viewer can feel the wooden floors and dry-wall peeling off.

In "Golden Pear" Joy uses a variety of mediums including tangible strings of beads along with her photographs. She is very skilled at bridging the gap between the two-dimensional aspect of collages and the three-dimensional feel of texture and layers.
